I've had this door issue. Go into build/buy for the lot, turn on testing cheats enabled and buydebug and get rid of any hidden room or level skip markers. You can also do this with MC by flushing them.

Ah, I think I'd rather just keep playing with seasons enabled, then. It drives me nuts when sims decide that the perfect time to get some sun is when it's raining at night.

I placed doors and exterior lights without issue. I don't recall anymore if I needed to use moveobjects, but since doors worked, I'd imagine windows would too.
