That definitely looks like a graphical glitch from bad cc, however, it's usually from a CAS item created for a baby/child but is miscatagorized and somehow gets stuck to a YA/Adult. Do you have the "thank you notes fix" mod from MTS? I had to take it out because after my sims wrote thank you notes, their mailbox acted like you described.

Sounds like your sim is having the same 2020 the rest of us are.

If it turns out that that's the problem, you need to look at the upgrade requirements. The minimum upgrade requirements will set the lot to open, and your sims will start being able to earn income off it.
