Skilling townies

Post by MissPatTS3 » March 3rd, 2019, 3:27 pm

Hello all!

I'm currently testing the theory, but thought I'd ask in case someone already has the answer.

Some townies have relatively "simple" LTWs, say "reach level 10 of martial arts/logic/guitar skill".

If you use MC to transfer skill books to their inventories, will they autonomously read the books and skill up overtime? Or is this method useless because townies don't read skill books at all?

Curious to know :)

Nraas SP's Skill module has a setting that will push inactives to read skill books as long as they are on their home lot but not at the library. But Buzzlers Moar Interactions also has a setting for inactive sims to read skill books and it'll work for libraries I believe not really sure as I've never used it.

The skilling of inactive sims is a matter of story progression. The way NRaas SP works does not require inactives to be doing skilling activities on screen. Most of the time when inactives are in their own homes, they are in states of semi-hibernation, not reading books or using skill gaining objects. So putting those things together, I would say that them having the books or access to them (at a library, for example) is not going to hurt their skill progressions in any way but I don't think it's going to help them much either unless you have ways to keep them animated all of the time.

Thanks @Igazor! That makes sense. I'll try and focus more on visiting skill-boosting lots like the gym & library so whichever townie stops by also benefits from my own sims' skilling activity. I noticed that townies with certain traits max the martial arts + athletic skill easily thanks to those lots. It's too bad it's harder for them to max skills like logic, guitar, etc  It inspires me to learn how to mod SP so I could add more non-push skilling scenarios for those brave townies.

That's true it does, but I never really translated that to the sims actually reading the books in an animated manner while their lots were not opened and animated. But regardless then, perhaps a good test would be 4 sims with the same or similar LTW and skill levels, 2 of them given all the skill books they need to advance but never visit them in their own homes, and see if these 2 advance in the skill any faster than those given placebos (let's say comic or coloring books) instead. :)

Tagger does shows me that they do read skill books in their homes if they have them and most don't have them unless they were already in their inventory at the start of the game.
What I find odd is that they never read skill books in the library even though there is tuning for them to do so.

Yay, that's great news! *insert happy simmer dance here (whatever that is)*

I'll focus on populating their households with skill books via DebugEnabler. I feared it was going to make them learn skills not related to their LTW but the Moar interactions mod desciption says that they'll autonomously pick a "skill book based on traits, occupation and lifetime wish" and the last resort is "by chance if no match is found". So that should be a realistic skilling result. Fingers crossed.

So you setup Tagger to oversee the skilling activity of some of your townies? Can you share how you did it? I'd like to give it a shot myself, I'm intrigued.

It's already enabled by default in Tagger just hover over the sims map tag and you can see what their current interaction is. If you mean by using filters I haven't tried to use those, afraid I'll mess something up if I try.

Got it! Thanks @sittingbear, I'll have to use Tagger for this purpose. So far I was only using it to see which lot had "room" for my newlywed couples in Bridgeport. Will be helpful to keep testing my "skilling townies" strategies. :)
