Add Sim on Community Lots

Post by AngieMF77 » August 8th, 2016, 7:33 pm

Is it safe to live on a community lot?
What about the mailbox? Can inactives live there OK or does it create bugs?
What measures do I need to put in place in order to have sims live on community lots successfully and without creating bugs?

MasterController has an option setting to allow us to place sims on community lots. NRaas > MC > Settings > Allow Add Sim on Community Lots (default is False). Doing so does not create bugs.

I've had some inactives living on community lots for quite a while and they're fine. They just can't get anything that would be sent to them through the game's mail system because they have no mailbox.

Actives are fine too, but a bit more of a challenge. In addition to not being able to send/receive stuff through the mail, they need a way to pay their bills as they are still obligated to do so. One way around that is use StoryProgression's Automated Active Billing option where active sims' bills are paid overnight by automatic debits. The SP Money add-on module is required, of course in addition to SP being in control of progression. Another way is to exempt your sims from bills with the No Bills Ever LTR or with a 0% tax rate through SP Money.

Another approach is to give active sims a very small real residential lot with nothing on it but a mailbox and trash can, located very close to the commercial lot in question, have them purchase the commercial lot, and spend all of their time there. This way they have a mailbox and the tiny but mostly empty residential will be where they are sent home to when commanded or reset, but they don't have to hang around on it. Since we cannot really control what inactives do to that extent, this option probably only makes sense for actives.

Note that if the commercial lot happens to be a venue with a closing hour, the sims living there will be shoved outside along with everyone else at closing time, though if they own the lot they should be able to back in again. That can be a bit disruptive to their lives, but it depends on the lot type as to whether it has an enforced closing hour.
