The town I'm starting in has 2 large families I was thinking of breaking the family links of the family members other than they would probably start messing around with each other is there anything I should be aware of as could doing this break or corrupt my game

Nothing that I'm aware of. Once you remove the 1's and 0's connecting them they are just like any other Sims.
