Service Sims and Pollinate

Post by marstinson » May 13th, 2016, 10:37 pm

I noticed the other night that when I opened the Basic menu on my butler, the pollinate option was not available. I was able to get it to appear by making her a resident, so I'm wondering whether the function is blocked for certain NPCs or was that just a hiccup? Thanks for any insights.

You may have missed this, marstinson, but on the EA forums I recently went off the rails a bit as I occasionally like to do and typed out a 3-screenful description of what a real Butler actually is/does for the benefit of the uncouth and less than cultured players (who never watched Upstairs, Downstairs apparently) who still seem to think that changing babies, doing laundry, and cleaning toilets come with the territory. I can assure you that this was not part of the job description, either.

Okay, but seriously now. A Butler is a Service Sim and therefore homeless. Even when it "looks like" they are living in their employer's place, they are really part of the homeless service pool. Members of that virtual household cannot be impregnated because the homeless household is always considered "full" for such purposes even if you have all the Greater Than Eight mods in play. That household cannot accommodate babies or toddlers.

What I can't remember, and why I didn't reply to simplyjen90's thread originally, is whether a homeless sim can father a baby. I think the answer is the same, though I stand by waiting for someone to correct me on that.

Interesting idea. Now that I know about the service sims and since I've got nothing better to do tomorrow night, I'll crank up the risky woohooing and see if anyone manages to get pregnant since we know the butler can't. And I'll try to avoid "service" jokes. It will be difficult, but I'll try.

Just don't expect the Butler to clean up after all that fun. That wouldn't be part of their job either. Though I could see where they might be properly called upon to formally announce the revelers as they arrive on the scene and present their business cards or the equivalent. :D

"whether a homeless sim can father a baby"
Yes a homeless male can father a child although if the father is hibernating at the time the baby is born it simply becomes a clone of the mother if I remember correctly

^ It shouldn't if Woohooer is installed. It yanks fathers out of hibernation, even foreign residents. There will be none of that irresponsible fun then running to another world or a virtual house to escape the consequences.

On another note;
If you have NRaas StoryProgression installed and running it on your Town, there are Castes (CityHall> NRaas> SP> Caste Options) that prevents them to mingle (interact) with the Residential Population and even within their own, check within Castes:

Service Sim

Role

Homeless Sim

if these following settings are set to False:

Romance Allowed

Pregnancy: Allow Can Be Pregnant

Pregnancy: Allow Participation

The Castes are covered for both genders and are default settings, set in place that these type of Sim can't get pregnant while living in a Service Pool (the game doesn't allow it anyway), but also prevents (especially) males to be used as donors (MC\Pollinate).

Though if you want to be able them to be accepted as donors, try setting just "Pregnancy: Allow Participation" in their Castes to "True". Although I highly recommend just making the Sim you wish to have as donor a full resident (give them a home (MC>Add Sim on a household), give them a job) within your Town for proper genealogy sake.

If you have the "Pregnancy \ Allow Service NPC"enabled then any service sim that pollinates one of the local residents will be forced to move into town.

I think the same applies to Role and homeless sims also but not to sure on it
I only allow them to have a friendships that way if a resident does like that homeless, role, service sim they will move them in but I've only seen it happen twice

@J4Ks: thanks for the input on SP. I do have it installed, running, and at least somewhat modified from defaults. This was mainly to deal with immigrants since I use it to populate user-created worlds, but otherwise leave it alone. Since I don't recall messing with the Caste options for Service, Role, or Homeless Sims, here is what I found:

Service and Role Sims: Friendship: Allow was set to False, Romance: Allow was set to False, Pregnancy: Allow Participation was set to False, but Pregnancy: Allow can be Pregnant was set to True.
Homeless Sims: Friendship: Allow was set to False, but the rest were set to True.

Again, I don't recall messing with those Caste settings, but I don't trust my memory on what I had for breakfast, much less on a mod setting that I installed a year ago or so. I've set them all to True and will see how it goes from there. Thanks to all for the info and I'll report back on the evening's plans for hedonism and debauchery.
