MC Add sim/Roommate options freezing game

Post by EmeraldDemon » April 21st, 2018, 6:25 am

Hi. I've had MC, with several of the add-ons, for a while now. I had to do a complete reinstall of all Nraas mods recently. Ever since, the MC>Household>Add Roommate/Sim option freezes my game. I have to force close.
Nothing has changed on my computer, so I'm out of clues as to what might be causing it. If any more info is needed, please let me know.

Hi there and welcome (officially now) to NRaas.

Add Sim and Add Roommate may cause pauses while the game processes the request and catches up, but there shouldn't be any total freeze-ups. Does this happen in a newly started test game as well as with long-running ones (and in which worlds are you playing)?

What have you got for a processor and graphics card, how much RAM, and how much RAM (check Task Manager) is TS3 alone using when this happens?

The game is not a new save. I'm playing Legacy Island III. I've been playing it a while. It's never frozen so long before. Perhaps I should go make a cuppa while it catches up. Lol.
My stats are: Intel(R) Core (TM) i5-2500 CPU @ 3.30GHz 3.60 GHz; RAM 16.0 GB; Graphics- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970. As for RAM in-game, I'd have to get back to you on that as I'm not gaming at the moment.
I have, fairly recently, only just got my computer to recognise my graphics card. Could that be putting extra stress on the game? Causing the super long freeze? It's just never happened before.

Graphics card recognition should help provide a proper profile for the game to use for the card, it shouldn't destroy performance.

But now that we see you are on the higher end of the spectrum on the specs, the questions change a bit. In addition to how much RAM is the game using at these points, do you have the frame rates capped using Vertical Sync by way of the Nvidia Control Panel (or some other method) and what kind of fps rates are you actually getting in game?

Cheats console, then type fps on (enter). As you play and move the game camera around, the displayed frame rates should never go above the refresh rate of your monitor. Most are 60 Hz, so 60 fps, some monitors can run higher. Unlike more modern games, TS3 does not have a built-in fps limiter, uncapped frame rates running wild like the higher end cards can produce can cause all kinds of freezing and performance issues and can even ultimately damage the card. To make the displayed rate go away, cheats console again and fps off (enter).

But although the above is very important generally we should also confirm (once we get the fps and RAM usage questions out of the way) that this MC freeze-up is happening in all games or maybe only the current long-running one.

My computer specs may be pretty good, but I still feel like my game runs quite laggy. But, I am a perfectionist.
My Vertical Sync is On. Will that cap my fps, or do I make that adjustment elsewhere? I will play now and get all these answers. I'll check out another save and see if the issue is still there. Perhaps I have a corrupt save. :)

OK. I'm a dufus. I played another save and had no issues whatsoever when I added Roomates and Sims. My fps were also capped at 60. I checked Task Manager and my Memory at normal was 2090MB. Immediately after the Add Sim task, it was approx 1900MB. I'm starting to think it might be a corrupt save. Shame :(
I'll start a new save and see if I have the same issue. If I do, it's the beautiful world that's the issue for me. I'm having some other issues with this save, too. Hopefully, they'll all go away with a new one.
You guys rock! I absolutely love this site! I taught myself how to mod only last year, so I'm still a noob. Thank you so very much for your time. I'm gonna go have a cocktail coz this was driving me crazy...and it was only the save. Lol

Perhaps it's the Sim you were trying to add or the household. Have you tried another combo?

Agree with Chain, I wouldn't give up on an odd acting save quite so quickly. We did have to rule out hardware related performance issues first, though. In addition to the issue at hand possibly being due to the sim(s) being added or the household being added to, after your cocktail maybe consider...

-- How large is the nhd file of the world within the save that is acting up? Perhaps it needs Save Cleaning.
-- What is the resident population of the world that is acting up? Perhaps things have simply gotten out of hand. Using MasterController, on City Hall or an in-game computer NRaas > MC > Demographics > Population > "X" to dismiss the filter. While the number of Service Sims and Homeless also reported can sometimes be interesting, usually it's the number of Residents reported there that is important.
-- Do you have Overwatch and ErrorTrap in play? Any recent ErrorTrap script error logs we can help interpret?
<a href="http://nraas.wikispaces.com/How%20To%20 ... 0Upload</a>
-- Have you tried running a MasterController Reset Everything (from City Hall) on it lately?
-- Do you routinely clear the five top level cache files before play and, if not, can you try that?
-- Can you re-create the issue with all mods removed except NRaas (clear the script cache), assuming you have any non-NRaas mods?

I've been playing the same ongoing game for over six years now. Sure unexpected things go wrong and some maintenance is required now and then, but abandoning this game entirely would be unthinkable to me. It's all in EA worlds, connected by Traveler, but I don't believe Legacy Island III has a reputation for being a problematic world to play.

Answers to your questions:
I can't answer some as I've already deleted the save. I don't really get too attached. Lol. I've started a new save in Ellacharmed's version of IP. First time I've used the fixes.
I use Save Cleaner frequently already.
I set the Maximum Residents to 120, although I don't think that was the case. If I set that number, does that include ALL sims? Service etc?
When I went back into the game, the Add Sim/Roommate function was suddenly working fine on any sim (after weeks of it not). But, I was repeatedly accumulating 'Stuck Aging Reset' notifications (same sims, until I would force kill them), so I went on a Force Kill spree of all the stuck sims and most elderly sims. I then tried to Manage the Dead and delete the headstones, but the game went nuts. When I wanted to focus on my sim, the game began zooming into the mausoleum, then onto my sim. My sims would just stand there and only autonomously interact with the pets. And my sims house was suddenly empty, but they were behaving as if the objects were there. That was it, I bailed. Haha.
I have Overwatch and Errortrap, I was getting at least half a dozen Script Errors per gameplay. Sorry, I deleted them.
I do a MC Reset Everything every few sim weeks.
I clear my caches after every gameplay.
I definitely won't be abandoning the game entirely!! Wash your mouth out!! Haha. I love this game! Perhaps I'll try that 'nothing except Nraas mods' thing. It's a beautiful world.
Thank you so much for your help!

(typing with a bar of soap in my mouth) Mmmpf. Was this punishment really necessary? I didn't mean abandoning TS3 itself back there, I meant I would never even think of abandoning my one 6+ year old ongoing game save if something were to start going wrong in one of its (Traveler mod connected) worlds.

SP's Max Residents only takes Residents into account, not Service or other Homeless Sims.

Isla Paradiso is broken. Sure, Ellacharmed's fixes are great for the world lot, but unlike most others there is much more broken about it that needs to be fixed up first before it even begins to become playable for most if not all of us.
