Can't possibly find aging in castes - but Dutch version

Post by DiaborMagics » November 14th, 2017, 3:28 pm

Dear all,

I have a problem. Ever since starting my current save (playing for my 1st time in like 3 years or so), my one and only Sim so far in the household has aging - never. I found its likely something I should change in castes, but I scanned all options over and over and either I'm blind, or there are no options to turn on aging anywhere. Not with dood, sterfte, overlijden, leeftijd.. Any Dutch words I can think it starts with either. It's not in the city options either. And yes, I HAVE aging enabled in the sims 3 (EA) options.

How do I turn on aging now? I like to create immortality but not for all Sims and not without at least sort of a challenge.

Another problem I'm not sure if it's Story Progression, but I've enabled keeping wishes but they disappear even with Dreamer also installed.

Can anyone help me? I really hope so!

Thanks in advance,
DiaborMagics

In English, the option is "Death:Allow Aging > True/False. In the Dutch localization file, the translation string I see is "Verouderen toestaan," which doesn't cover the "Death" part. Don't know if that helps or not. It's not important immediately what it says in Caste or Town Options, if you can find the option it's Sim Options (on your sim in particular) that matters first. If you see (False), with the parentheses, then your sim is getting their not aging status from a higher level option -- Town, Caste, or Household. If you see False, with no parentheses, then the sim has explicitly been set that way on Sim Options. If you see "---" or something like that, it means a prior set option was not removed properly. Try SP > Sim Options > Reset to Defaults and select the Death:Allow Aging option to reset that one setting properly.

The only reason I can think of for the option not showing at all in any of these places, besides having Aging switched off in EA's Game Options that you have already checked, is if you are playing in a foreign world rather than a homeworld so that no sims would be aging anywhere.

Note that once you do get this fixed, it can take several sim hours for the status to correct itself on the sim's information tab. If you have MasterController, MC > Sim > Status > Personal will tell you right away if the sim is aging or not with no delay for changes to catch up with it.

Only promised wishes will stay in place, that's the four in the locked in slots. The Dreamer mod doesn't change this, but it does allow credits for the unpromised wishes that will still timeout after a while. The Dreamer mod also makes the entire system less prone to total breakage. If you want the unpromised wishes to never timeout, you would require a different mod from some other source that allows for this.

If what you are talking about is keeping wishes and opportunities in place after switching actively being households and then switching back in again, that's different and is called Dream Catching. If you set a household to be protected by Dream Catching by using SP, then you must use the SP command to change active households for that setting to have any effect. The other ways to switch active households and be Dream Catching:

-- MC if the option is on (this would be for all households in town at once), but you must use an MC command to change active households.
-- PortraitPanel, if you use this option.
-- Selector and right-click to change active households, if you use this option, is always Dream Catching.
-- Edit Town to switch active households is not Dream Catching unless you have Mover and set it that way.

Dream Catching should be used very sparingly. It is very processor heavy to be running Dream Managers on different inactive households. But I'm still not sure I'm answering the right question here about disappearing wishes and may have misunderstood what you were asking about.

Correction, what I should have said about Dreamer is that it does stop unpromised wishes from timing out, but only if you add an optional tuning file alongside of the mod to do this.

Well....

There is no 'Verouderen', there is 'Voorouderen', so I don't know if that is a typo or if it's supposed to mean 'Ancestors' (Voorouders, is the word for that), however there are no Sim Options either under Nraas -> SP.
I have:
Algemene Opties = General
Immigranten Opties = Immigrant
Kaste-Opties = Castes
Kavel Opties = Lots
Stadsopties = Town
Versie = Version (267)

I am playing in the University at the moment. Could that possibly be the issue then? Don't sims age while attending university? If so I feel pretty silly. But it's also a bit silly if they cannot age. I mean... I've studied and I'm not at the same age as when I started :P

I'll add the tuning file, I think for Dreamer that that is what I am looking for.

Okay and I just Googled it... so indeed they don't age in University. Actually makes sense, homeworld and all... since its been so long and the sim in university is currently my only sim (I like to start with 1, then expand by getting married etc), I just didn't think about it.

In other words, I think my problem is no problem at all and it should all go back to normal once I move back home. I'll need to be sure to check the age again once I'm back in my home then. Thanks for the help, especially since you put so much information there and perhaps almost all for naught.

Though the Dreamer tuning file should help me and you DID make me open my eyes about the university, so thanks a lot for that :D

SP > General, Caste, Immigrant, and Town Options are on City Hall and in-game computers. In Uni World, the Admin Bldg stands in for City Hall.
SP > Household Options are on the residential lot where the particular household lives.
SP > Sim Options are on sims.

SP doesn't provide filtered lists of sim in town to apply Sim/Household Options to like MC does, so we have to click in the correct place first.

And no, no one ages at all when the active sim is away from their homeworld, not the active sims, the others around them, or those back home. That includes WA worlds, Uni, and custom Traveler destinations. Oasis Landing is kind of a special case. Thus the option would not appear on any of those levels. Pregnancies, although they can form, do not progress when active play is away from their homeworld either.

The logic, if you can call it that, is if your sim were to age while at Uni they will return home and be more age progressed than those left behind who weren't being simulated during the term.
