French Pets Having Human Children?!

Post by theapoo » December 11th, 2017, 2:15 pm

So I had a couple of Sims travel to France for the third time. (I'm not sure whether this particular bug happened the last times they went). I noticed that some of the French townies were invisible. They appeared as completely black. These townies had been conceived by premade French human Sims (I hope) and aged up automatically when I loaded France again. I just so happened to check their Family Tree in MC to find out who their parents were and found this:

I don't know what this means. Does it mean my game is corrupted? I've never seem this in the home world (I also don't believe I've seen it before in other trips to foreign destinations); there is no .bad associated with the save game file; and everything else looks perfectly fine.

Either way, I'm going to use Total Annihilation to kill off these creepy invisible Sims. They kind of freak me out for obvious reasons. :-0

That means yes, your instance of France although still playable is showing signs of corruption. It's difficult to say if this will spread across other residents of that world or even stay contained within it and thus not affect the homeworld.

Just to add, do you have Overwatch and ErrorTrap in play? I'm kind of surprised that the mods even allowed this to happen without stepping in to correct things.

OMG that's so creepy!! What kinds of mod do you have installed that could do this?

I do have Overwatch and ErrorTrap.

I don't believe I have any mods installed that would do this.

Just checked; I have AwesomeMod? I have a pregnancy controller mod from ModtheSims? I don't have any mods, that I know of, that specifically affect pets or foreign Sims or anything involved in this situation.

Just some extra things.
1. I make an effort to keep all my mods updated. I have the latest version of Awesome, which was released back in August, and the Pregnancy Controller Mod is compatible with my game version. All my other mods are also updated to the best of my knowledge, but I don't see how those would have anything to do with this issue.
2. I also looked at the ScriptErrors that ErrorTrap generated and none of them have anything to do with the glitched Sims in France.I just have no idea what could be causing this.

3. Now that you say it Igazor, I am REALLY scared of the corruption spreading to my homeworld or other vacation worlds. Especially the home world, because I have been playing it a long time and it's the longest-running save game I've ever had. I have a LOT of backups, but still. I am willing to delete the France .nhd file or get rid of Awesome (though I love its bug fixes) or whatever I have to do to keep the corruption from spreading.

Now my Sims have made progress in this France because they've been there several times. They've started collections and are close to max Visa level. If I delete the .nhd file and force the game to load a fresh France world, will their progress be lost? Specifically, will the Sims be able to continue to raise their Visa level, increase their tomb stats and grow their relic collections?

Didn't mean to cause panic, sorry. I would probably start with getting rid of the households in France that have this issue, especially if it's only a small number of them. Removing the instance of France by way of the nhd and thus spawning a new one would be second on my list if things are still not stable, if the entire world is already affected, or if the problem shows up somewhere else. I don't suppose any of your homeworld sims have bred with or have family relationships with anyone in France -- could be trickier to work around if there are cross-world family relations.

Visa Levels can be set if needed by way of a DebugEnabler command, so you don't really stand to lose any progress there. Tomb and Opp progress are good questions, I'm not actually sure but I think those might get reset as the world they would then be visiting would be a new one entirely. Let's see if anyone else can answer that from experience.

Of course, if you remove the nhd from a "spare copy" of your game save, you have no danger of losing anything but some time if you should need to revert to the original.

As for the cause, sims are elements in a database that we would call a saved game. Databases can become corrupt, there isn't always going to be a single identifiable trigger. Maybe the game crashed one time while it was being written to? When this happens, internal data pointers (family tree ones in this case) get pointed to the wrong place. Sort of like how a giant spreadsheet would work if the data it contains were on and off not showing up in the expected cells or columns but rather somewhere else. I very much doubt those animals have any real game generated genetic connections to the humans on those family trees.

No worries, Igazor :). I'm overly protective of my save because it's a custom world I spent many months working on in CAW, and it's a long-running save. I have backups, but the reason I was concerned is because these backups are pretty recent, and these particular Sims went to this copy of France a long time ago, so I don't know if I still have a backup from before they went to France. I wondered if the corruption would get worse in maybe any the backups.

You're right--I don't have any homeworld Sims that have family relationships or children with foreign Sims. They've just befriended and made acquaintances. Once in a while in the homeworld I see a deer wandering around that is completely black. But the Sims themselves are fine and the pets are fine.

It's interesting you say that because my game crashes pretty often. It's because I've run out of memory, I've never had it crash for any other reason. With my number of mods and all my settings on high or very high, my game tends to crash after a while. It's hard for me to predict when my game is going to crash because it varies by how long I've played and things I've done. If I use CASt, especially in CAS, travel somewhere, or switch households all of a sudden, that sometimes sends the game over the edge and boom, CTD. Or Error code 12. That's why I just save a lot and have so many backups. I hope it's just caused by a crash, because then I can just delete those households and be done with it. I actually think I will start by deleting the affected Sims and pets themselves--because the other Sims in those households seem fine--and see what happens.

Oui oui, kitty.

Now that I've gotten that out of my system. This game starts doing really odd things when it starts running out of memory, this may be one of them. It could just be bad EA code too or maybe a mod is wonky somewhere.

If you're having frequent memory issues I'd recommend cutting back on mods, expansions you don't use and saving then restarting the game frequently.
