Town-wide Outfit Reinherits

Post by Frimlin » August 23rd, 2012, 5:43 am

Hey

Twice now in the last month my entire sim town has had their outfits reinherited by ErrorTrap. OK I understand this is caused by a faulty outfit, but can someone help me understand why it affects every sim in my town?

I'm just a little bit frustrated as it takes a long time to recover from this, as you can't simply go back a few save games as the reinherit event always seems to occur. So I have to go back to an old save, export out all my sims (150 or so), import them into the world after the reinherit event and then do "Transfer Genetics" and "Transfer Clothing" 150 times (and it isn't a smooth process as these fail and cause errors a lot).

Is there any easy way to avoid these full town reinherit events, or is there at least an easier way to recover from them?

Kind regards,
Frimlin

They're standard logs as described on this page:

Town-wide "Fix Outfit logs" ? I recall Nonamena reporting an issue like that a while ago, which I believe they marked up to an issue with removal of custom content.

I've never encountered it myself, however I have never actually removed custom CAS parts from my setup, only ever added them.

You could try removing ErrorTrap and loading the save that is causing you grief, and see what the EA Standard results would be.

They may be more reasonable than my mod's sledgehammer approach.

OK I already did think of trying to remove ErrorTrap but they still seem to screw up anyhow. And no, sadly I had not removed any custom content and in fact had made no changes to my setup, which just makes it even more irritating because it would be nice if it was something obvious like that. :)

I've had it about 5 times over the last few months. It always occurs, irrespective of how many save games I return to. It's like once it has happened, you can never get past it. So my solution, time and again, has been to export all the affected sims and as mentioned, transfer clothing and genetics.

Unfortunately if I don't do this via Town Hall > MasterController I randomly get errors when I use the Hotkey version. And it's a PITA to do it via the Town Hall; much easier to do it directly on the source sim.

My solution this time has been to use Porter to move them all out of the town from a previous save and to another town. Unfortunately it totally screws with my multi level family tree and I have to import previous porter packs from previous town moves to restore the family tree.

By the way I'm not blaming your mods at all, my dear. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to either prevent this, or clean it up faster. What I would *love* is a way to do a mass genetics+clothing transfer between say sims of the same name. But if this issue is only reported by me and one other, I doubt this has any interest to you or anyone (and it's not really your thing anyhow!) :)

Unfortunately, I do not know what causes the outfit corruption. It has been around for quite a while now, and tends to affect some users more than others.

It may be the result of cache corruption of some nature, or something to do with the number of times one uses CAS or alter outfits.

As yet, no one has been able to provide a plausible theory to work off though.

Well thanks Twallan, it was somewhat cathartic just to chat about it. If I have any moments of genius on the matter, I'll let you know.

:)

I have a feature request for Overwatch that is somewhat related (dopplegangers) and I'll go post over in that forum.

Interestingly (and frustratingly) the event still occurs even after I ported the entire town to a new world.

I've been doing some debugging, because it'd be great if we could track this down more.

The only result I have so far is that the event happens at 3am. Is it only Overwatch that triggers at that time or is it other things too?

I had previously tried to remove ErrorTrap to try and stop it, but maybe I should try removing Overwatch (and whatever other mods trigger something at 3am).

I went back to a save, total annihilated all male sims, the event still occurred. Did the same with female sims, the event still occurred. I am now trying to delete all animals to see if that makes any difference.

The event did not occur after totally annihilating all animals. At least, not yet.

I'm going to see if I can track it down to a specific animal. If I could remove just one animal to prevent the event, that would be perfect. :)

I'm also curious to see if it is a certain Overwatch setting, like the Outfit check for example. But I might only test that if I get no luck with a specific animal.
