Sim reset Ghosthunter profession

Post by LessienVardamir » January 13th, 2017, 9:41 am

Hi, every time I click on a job in the ghosthunter profession My sim resets and I get the message "Script Error. Dean Winchester".
Also when trying to complete A work related opportunity in the investigator career, he went into the (combined) rabbithole and reset when coming out (thus not completing It). It's always the same (premade) sim in different safe files, but the same Town. I have not dared to try with other sims or professions yet.
Any ideas on what might cause It and how to get rid of It?

Hi there, and welcome to NRaas.

I don't have any direct experience with that profession, but I do know that it and the PI one can be pretty buggy. For issues with combo rabbithole lots generally, we recommend Overwatch, ver 122 contains a lot of fixes for those lots including some related to that career according to the documentation.

You might also consider uploading the script error so we can see what we are talking about, perhaps if you are already on that version of OW or if it doesn't seem to help.

I installed overwatch. It seems to be a family specific problem since I didn't get any problems with different families, but still got the issue in a different safe file with the same family. I uploaded the log (I think), I'm at a total loss regarding the cause here.

There is no evidence of Overwatch having been installed on that script log, so I guess it must be from before you added it.

But whoa, hold on. I see several things here.

Let's start with the simplest. Where did you obtain your TS3 game and its EPs, please. Is this a retail disc install, Origin digital, a mixture, Steam, or from someplace else (where)?

Yes, It was from a couple of days ago.
I asked My boyfriend (who reinstalled the game on My laptop) and he told me that he used my origin account for all the EPs since he didn't want to meddle with the discs. (Can I check that somewhere in the documents folder or something?)

My reason for asking is that you are running Patch 1.62 of the game. That is not a valid patch level. It was provided on the ITF retail store discs but never made available to the public or for mod developers to work with, by the time the EP came out the "real" Patch 1.63 was released. None of our mods, actually no mods anywhere, would be made with 1.62 in mind.

In particular, ErrorTrap is a Core Mod and the version made specifically for your patch level must be used or you could be severely damaging each ongoing game (just your game saves, it's not going to damage your install or your computer). There is no ErrorTrap for 1.62.

There similarly wouldn't be a version of Overwatch made for 1.62. The version we have been talking about with the fix for combo lots is v122, and is meant for 1.63 and higher.

And finally, regardless of which patch level you are on, your MasterController add-on modules and base mod versions are all mixed up. That can cause really bad damage to an ongoing game as well.

I suggest that you patch up to 1.67 using EA's SuperPatcher and redownload fresh copies of all NRaas mods, the ones meant to be used with 1.67. If you really want to, you could use Origin to patch up to 1.69 (am assuming you are on Windows, on Mac 1.69 wouldn't be an option) and do it that way instead, but then you will be subjected to a totally Origin controlled game.

Now none of this might actually fix the Ghosthunter problem. But it can't be healthy for the game to be running that mixed bag of mods none of which were intended for your actual patch level and this will give the version of Overwatch that is needed for the combo lot fix a chance to work properly.

Active Sim is missing their map tag manager. You're gonna want to sort out the patch and mod issues but generally it's an EA error. Sometimes restarting the game fixes it. I don't see the error with the rabbit hole to know what is going on there.

I can't believe I never noticed that myself, My launcher said It was on 1.63 (for some reason I thought It was 1.69). It seems to have fixed the problem (that or My home lot was haunted). I'm so sorry for keeping you busy with such a stupid problem. Thanks
