Sims who Dislike Children dislike everyone unless they are made friends. (Is it just my game?)

Some other folks have had this problem, but everyone on the Sims Wiki seems to deny that this... glitch? exists. If an teenage Sim or older uses any interaction other than Chat or Get To Know on a Sim who Dislikes Children, they will be "bored" by it, as if these Sims are interacting with a child or an enemy. The trait will even be discovered upon trying this. They don't receive the Dislikes Children moodlet though, they are just tough to befriend outside repeated chatting and phone calls. Thornton Wolff, Patricia Bedlington, Odin Crosby, etc are the most notable. Once the Sim does befriend them, they react to the other interactions as per normal.

It's peculiar, and I am wonder if anyone else has encountered this behaviour.

The sims you have listed all seem to have other traits (Snob, Perfectionist, No Sense of Humor) that may not be lending themselves to making friends easily through typical social interactions. Are you certain it's the Dislikes Children trait alone that is making the difference?

Nope, just Dislikes Children. I've tried out a Good, Friendly, Charismatic, Schmoozer Sim with Dislikes Children, and they still refused to listen to anything the other Sims had to say. I replaced the trait later, and they acted like a normal Sim. It's like the trait treats all acquaintances as enemies or children, but the Sims who Dislikes Children are never outwardly rude unless they are like Kurt Shallow who is Hot-Headed or if talking to a child or Childish Sim.

Lawrence Lum is of the same mold… and he has the Friendly trait.

I've noticed the exact same thing in my game. And it is funny that you mention Thornton Wolff because one of my Sims is currently trying to befriend him and is running into the same problem.

I just assumed that the developer at EA who coded the trait thought that people who dislike children tend to dislike other people in general.

It's good to know that I am at least not the only one alone with this weird problem. I personally think that it may some kind of developer oversight that came with my version. (1.69.43.024017)

At least you can make the most autonomously rude Sim possible by making a Sim with the Dislikes Children, Mean-Spirited, Evil, Grumpy and Inappropriate traits. Not only will they just be rude all the time, but the Dislikes Children trait glitch means they will not listen to any friendly interactions the other Sims have to say (unless it's Chat, Get To Know, Gripe About Kids, Mastermind Plot or Mock (Sim Name).

Just FYI, the game files for Patches 1.66, 1.67, and 1.69 are exactly the same as each other except for internal build numbers. The difference between 1.66 and 1.67 was one almost trivial thing and between 1.67 and 1.69 only concerns the Origin/Launcher tie-in and the way in which the game starts up, not anything functional about gameplay. There were three editions of 1.69 with different sets of digits after the first two but that's because EA kept fine-tuning the Origin connection, again not anything to do with how the game itself plays. We have to go back as far as the update from 1.63 (to 1.66) to find actual game developer changes.

Would region have anything to do with this? I'm in Australia.:|

No. If the game files were different across regions, it would break the mods most especially Core Mods (like ErrorTrap). There may be translation differences with respect the language the game is installed in, we choose and spell some words differently here in the US for example, but none of that affects gameplay either. I'm afraid, for better or worse and before we begin adding Expansion Packs and mods of our own choosing, we are all actually playing the same game if we are on the same patch level or Patch 1.66 and higher.

I suppose more people would have to come forward with this issue before anything could be figured out. I recall someone one on the Sims Wiki saying that their "Immune To Fire" hidden trait Sims would panic around a fire (but not die) in their game while Sims with the hidden trait in my game will always put out the fire without needing direction - they will even put out fires almost instantaneously.

I mainly just work around the trait glitch through repeated phone calls/chat sessions or just ignoring those Sims if my Sims don't need them. Still, they are less receptive to most interactions in general and the trait makes them act like it's a "Irritated By Everyone" trait rather than just not liking children.
