unable to date active ghost---reasons?

Post by deedee_828 » July 13th, 2019, 7:24 pm

Hi all,
I'm currently in Town #8, Midnight Hollow, of my town jump game and my teen female human sim has an teen boyfriend, Antony Salas, who's a born-in-game son of Tatiana and Jay Salas. The whole family are active yellow ghosts. His parents, along with his two older sisters, were EA created original residents of the town.
My teen sim and Antony met as toddlers and are now going steady. They have all the standard romantic options in game, but the option to ask him out on a date isn't available. She can use her cell phone and ask him on a date and he can accept, but when she gets to the chosen lot, they have no 'date hearts' above their heads. Anyone have any idea why?
Another thing I found out is that all of the Salas children age up normally to YA, but when I checked his older sister Sandra's status for something else entirely, I noticed her aging now says: age up--never.
Is this something specific to active ghosts? Can I change that with one of the NRaas mods?
Are there any other odd things about ghosts I should know?
I'm hoping to take Antony along in the main household when we town jump and I'd rather be aware of any issues now than after the fact! Oh, speaking of town jumping, I use NRaas Traveler and follow the switch home world steps when they arrive in the new town. Is there any reason to believe Antony wouldn't be allowed to travel? If yes, is there a setting in Traveler or somewhere to allow him to do so. Any and all responses appreciated.

Nraas SP disables Aging for Ghosts and Vampires by default. Go into the Ghost Caste and enable Aging for them if that's what you want.

Not sure what's going on with that been along time since I last played with ghosts.

I never take ghosts traveling anymore after I had one lose it's tombstone during the traveling transition.

I strongly agree that ghosts in the traveling - the cause of many troubles! But I had a worse case. My character didn't lose her grave. There was a break between the character and the grave and, thereby, in the grave formed another ghost. While that grave was in the luggage, I couldn't travel. What a shock it was when that duplicate came out of the grave left on the box... It happened at night and it was scary. Maybe you can export this character to a new town more correctly using Porter? About dating. Use Tagger or MC to track the ghost. And then, when you manage to find and catch this ghost, ask him out, like the good old days.

Thanks for the quick replies sittingbear and Sara_Darkees. The duplicate ghost scenario sounds horrible! And losing the tombstone doesn't sound helpful either. But what exactly happens if I try to travel with him using Traveler? The characters data is permanently lost? Or even worse, it glitches out your save game? Is there any chance at all that he'd make it through to the next town completely in tact?

Sara you mentioned

Does that mean that using NRaas Traveler isn't the correct/best way to move from one town to another? Or just that Porter is a different way? I'm trying to keep the family tree in tact and Traveler's done that so far, would Porter do that or is it more like saving your sims and families to the library?

deedee_828, I proceed from the fact that ghosts are very harmful and problematic characters, especially for travel. I don't know exactly how they will behave in the case of Traveler. Maybe it's not enough, since sittingbear mentioned that he prefers not to travel with afterlife friends. But you can always try what you want to do. You are warned about possible troubles, so you know that you will need to check first. Most importantly, don't forget to make backups. By the way, never take out a family with an active ghost in Edit Town mode. This can cause a duplicate. Ah yes, let me know later if the move was successful.

Thanks for the quick reply Sara. I'm still on the fence about traveling with an active ghost with the above info. I have three other siblings to choose from though so I might just leave her in the town with him. If I do decide to travel with him, I always have multiple saves to go back to if the traveling doesn't work out as planned. I use 'save as' a lot, I have at least 22 saves in Midnight Hollow alone! Usually after big events, births, marriages, birthdays, etc. But right before traveling I 'save as' multiple times. Just because we all know just how finicky Sims 3 can be. I'll post an update on the move if I decide to give traveling with an active ghost a shot. And here I thought it was going to be the family ghosts that caused all my ghost issues. I've never once had a moments trouble with their tombstones in inventory!

They could lose their tombstone during the transition. When you get to your destination check to make sure they still have it, if they don't exit the game to the desktop and reload and try again.

Better yet to resurrect him using Ambrosia, don't use MC's Remove Occult I know it doesn't work right with pre-made ghosts not sure how it works with ghosts born in game. But if you do use MC's Remove Occult and his skin turns blue or green after you do it do not save and exit the game to desktop and reload.

No not to resident playable ghosts. At worst they can never resurrected if they lose their tombstone; at best they'll be completely fine and still be able to be resurrected.

Porter from my experience doesn't work well with occults in general. It seems to sometimes remove their occult status and in the case of pre-made ghosts (and maybe also with ghosts born in game dunno) that is bad, they should never have their ghost status removed by a mod. For some reason pre-made ghosts can break if their ghost status gets removed by a mod.

Thanks so much for all the info sittingbear!

I was actually just thinking about resurrecting him with Ambrosia.

Though I like his looks better as the yellow ghost, it sounds way too iffy to travel with him that way.
And if he's part of the heir couple, he and his children, which could be ghosts, would have to travel to the next town as well.
Which sounds like I'd just be setting myself up to really mess up my game. Even with multiple saves, having to keep replaying the same part gets frustrating after awhile.

But since I'm playing a town jump game and the whole point is to bring original townie genetics to each generation, maybe having her stay in MH as a spare and raise their ghost babies together is another option!

A lot of decisions to make and there are four potential heir children.
But at least now I know the possible issues having an active ghost in the family.

sittingbear,Sara_Darkees,

I've decided not to risk traveling with an Active Ghost as there are too many negative possibilities, and there could be others I don't know about.

So Antony will be staying in MH and his GF will be staying with him, giving up heirship for the love of her ghost!

I would like to mention both of you and your information in my story as a caution to others about the possible issues.

If you don't mind me using your names. Please let me know if you'd rather stay anonymous.
