Can’t limit FPS

Post by hirikosaunders » May 4th, 2019, 2:20 pm

I can’t seem to limit the FPS. I tested it with the command console and it ranged from 150-250. I turned vsync on I even took the suggestion of turning off full screen enhancements in compatibility.

I just want to play my game.

What am am I missing?

Thank you

Vsync and frame rate capping are technically two different things. Vsync alone is often not enough to limit the fps and it will never work in windowed mode.

If this is an Nvidia card, I would suggest adding Nvidia Inspector and in addition to the Nvidia Control Panel's vsync, then explicitly cap the frame rate for TS3 within Inspector to 60 or whatever the refresh rate of your monitor is.

If this is an AMD card, then I would suggest adding RivaTuner Stats Server (RTSS) to do the same. This is what I use, what's a bit different about RTSS is that it must be running alongside of the game in order to have any effect. It can be set to start up with Windows and takes up virtually no system resources while running.

It’s Nvidia so I will download now and set it up. This is a new comp and I don’t want to burn out the graphics card for sure.

Thanks!

I can't get it to work.

What am I missing?

Vsync is forced and I don't see anything for limiting FPS.

And after what I tried before the game doesn’t load the same and a white filter is left after I close it down.

I don't have an Nvidia card so I can't make a screenshot of Inspector. But there's a million of them that can be found on Google, under the images results tab. The second section is called Sync and Refresh. The first option in that section is called Frame Rate Limiter. This is where you would explicitly use the value of 60 or something near that, if you have a 60 Hz monitor/screen (some can run higher).

On Win 10, you may also need to deactivate Game Mode -- this is relatively new and many older games like TS3 don't like it. Some also have trouble with full screen mode in general since the Creators Update and find that Windowed Borderless Gaming where one is running in windowed mode but it looks like full screen is an acceptable alternative, still together with vsync and Inspector or RTSS.

Can’t limit FPS

Thank you I did get the FPS under control but I don’t know what is causing the loading issues and the white overlay.

i had checked ‘disable full screen optimizations’ and turned off game bar. I undid both. Because they didn’t fix the issue I undid it but now load issues and whit overlay when I shut it down. I can’t find anything anywhere about this problem. it’s like brightness is blown out.

I'm not sure that switching off the Game Bar and Game Mode are exactly the same thing. But I've only had Win 10 for about a week now, just got my new system very recently as well, so perhaps should defer to others here with more experience.

Should I make another post about the white overlay on desktop since it isn’t connected to the fps? It goes away if I shut down the computer but I don’t want to do that each time I play the Sims 3.

And the game game now takes twice the time to load.

It doesn't matter on the new thread, let's see if anyone else responds here first.

Not getting why the game would take 2x longer to load. What are the specs on this system? Can we get the first 40 lines (not the long lists of game options, the parts before that) of the current DeviceConfig.log file in your TS3 user game folder in Documents?
