Packs Missing with NRaas Mods Installed

Post by HikariTenshihime » April 14th, 2019, 12:37 am

For a long time, I've been using NRaas mods. They made life so much easier on Sims 3.
But when I booted up the game recently after not playing for a while, I saw all my packs were gone from the launcher.
Origin said they were installed, so I tried moving my mods folder out and booting it again. The packs were back in the launcher.

Is there a compatibility issue with (Some, if not all) NRaas mods and version 1.69? That's the version I have and I know it's not the other mods I use because they don't change anything major in the game, and the packs showed just fine after I removed the NRaas mod folder.
The mods were in a subfolder inside Mods because they were installed with Mod Updater a long time ago and it makes the Mods folder less cluttered.

I assume the subfolder is in Mods\Packages, not on the top level of Mods itself? There are only three things that should be in the Mods folder on ts top level, the Packages and Overrides subfolders and the required Resource.cfg file.

There are layers of separation between mods and the game program. Mods are in the TS3 user game folder in Documents, the game is installed and patched in Program Files (x86) on Windows. This kind of interference of package based content like mods preventing EPs from loading up or being recognized by Origin shouldn't really be possible. One thing though, one must have the 1.69 specific variant of ErrorTrap as that is a Core Mod to avoid the core version mismatch warning on startup. Usually the warning can be dismissed though, it doesn't prevent the game from loading. The only other mod from this site that is a Core Mod is UntranslatedKey, the rest are Script Mods and their tuning files that don't care about Patch 1.69 vs. 1.67 and they load much later in the startup sequence than EPs would.

What you might try though is pulling out your TS3 user game folder or renaming it so that a new no-content one spawns on the next startup. Back out, set up the mods Framework again, and put your current version NRaas mods in there. Does the game start up correctly on the new game folder?

There was a folder named "NRaas" inside of "Packages", I made sure of that.

I tried doing the backup stuff when I tried removing the mods. The launcher showed the packs just fine.
Then I put the mods back in and relaunched and the packs were missing in the launcher again.

As for versions of the mods, they should be up to date unless there were any updates recently.

I kind of feel too lazy to check for new versions and download the mods all over again because I liked using the Updater and it's not available to download at the moment.

Sorry, I may not be reading this with the clarity that was intended. Have you actually tried spawning a new user game folder and putting nothing in it but some NRaas mods or are you re-using the existing one after pulling the mods out?

Er, sorry if I'm being confusing.

So, I was looking up what I could try to fix this. I stumbled upon Cincrict's (Sorry if I'm mistyping their name) blog(I think it was a blog) where they have issues and fixes, etc. The suggestion was to move the Sims 3 folder out of Documents/Electronic Arts and rename it so the game can make a new folder. And then I launched it and the packs showed up. Then I closed it, put the mods back, launched again and the packs were gone as if I didn't do anything.

Are you clearing (deleting) the five top level cache files, scriptCache.package would be the important one of the five, after putting the mods back in? this needs to happen whenever the contents of Mods or Mods\Packages changes in any way.

If so, let's be a little more forceful about this then.

Pull the current user game folder out of Documents (again) and launch the game to spawn a new one. Back out after you see that the EPs are again loading. Download the Framework from MTS, a fresh copy, unzip, and place into your user game folder. Verify that the game works with the two sample script mods it includes, NoIntro and NoBuildSparkles (and that the two mods load). Keep or discard the test mods as you wish. Add a small number of freshly downloaded and unzipped NRaas mods, let's say Overwatch, ErrorTrap (the correct version), and MasterController (the base mod only) and clear the cache files. Any better?

They are actually loading as it is right now, should I just do what comes next?

Edit: Should I really use the UntranslatedKey mod? I think that mod breaks parts of the game for me. Like I'd see things like file directory paths in lifetime wishes. Which was weird. I know you didn't mention it but I thought I'd ask while we're talking about mods.

No that is primarily used by developers. It's not for general use and it's probably why you were having problems with your packs going missing as I believe that can break the Launcher if you're on 1.69.

Oh I didn't know that or I didn't see that being mentioned. Thank you.
I guess that's why I saw code in place of lifetime wish conditions. lol

I did what you said over the existing folder (Thought I'd do that first instead of wasting time with moving files around) and now it seems to be working. Packs all show up on the list.
I downloaded every NRaas mod I used to use except a few.
