Store Stuff disappeared and I don't know why

Post by OneCrazedAnarchist » April 9th, 2019, 5:11 pm

When I started up my game (University world save) earlier this afternoon, I got the "Some stuff could not be found and was replaced" message (to that affect). I didn't think much of it until I went to buy a dishwasher for my Sim's house and noticed only base game items. There was NO store stuff. So I exited without saving and opened the launcher (I only use it to install Sims3 Packs) and saw that NONE of my Store was showing up as "Installed". So I installed EVERYTHING just be sure and that fixed it. My question is: how did this happen? I don't remember deleting anything I shouldn't, but apparently I did. So what did I delete to cause this? I need to know so I can put a Note Pad file in that folder saying DON'T DELETE THIS!

Installed sims3packs content exists as bundled files in the DCCache Folder. Custom Content is in the dbc files, store content is in the ebc files. Would you ever have deleted these or the entire folder?

I don't think I would have deleted that whole folder. Just the .TMP files.

Do any of the existing .dbc or .ebc files have a Creation Date of earlier than today? Or are they all brand new?

Phantom unwanted game folders can spring up, especially in OneDrive if Win 10 is being used. It would be worth checking to see if you now have two game folders, one that still has the prior installed content. But then your mods and saved games wouldn't be where you expected them to be either so that doesn't yet seem likely.

As of right now, they're all brand new since I reinstalled them today. My graphics (NVIDIA) recently updated but that doesn't affect my Store content. I always have to reset my user options, but my Store stuff remains intact. Honestly, I have no idea how this happened.

It might be a good idea to make routine backups of your entire TS3 user game folder then or at least the critical parts, saved to an external drive if possible, so you don't have to go through the entire installation procedures on such content should this ever happen again.

This can't be said enough. I had a hard drive die on me last summer. Luckily most of my data lived on other drives, so I didn't lose too much. Still, it was a serious wakeup call for me. If it had been the drive where my Sims stuff is stored, I would have lost everything. Now I've got a backup routine that automatically backs up some things (such as my Sims bin), daily, and other things weekly or monthly.
