Baby Gender

Does the game still determine the gender of an unborn child from eating apples/watermelons? I have 2 pregnant sims and they had apple pancakes for breakfast, which reminded me of this silly setting. If it does, how do I turn that off?

I don't think that's something you can turn off. AFAIK, apples and watermelons in food don't affect gender of unborn sims unless you possibly have a mod. One of icarus' mods may have implemented this but I don't remember off-hand. Otherwise, I guess you'd have to use MC to set the gender chances back to 50/50: click on the pregnant sim>NRaas>MasterController>Basic>Baby>Gender Offset>0.

Edit: also, I think you can negate the apple pancakes by having the pregnant sim eat watermelon pancakes.

Poor child won't know what it is... first its female, then its male! LOL maybe if I do that it will be one of each :) I'll try the offset setting and see if that makes a difference. I can't remember what apples gives or what watermelon gives anyway.

Apples for boys, watermelons for girls. Each fruit serving up to five (if the sim isn't eating both fruits in which case they would cancel each other out) increases the odds of the gender they favor, and only during the first half, or maybe it's the first two trimesters, of a pregnancy.

When SP's setting under General Options > Options: Pregnancy > Newborn Gender is set to favor either gender or is set to Balanced, then the fruits have no impact. When it is set to Random, then it does. There are other mods that can allow or interfere with the fruit impact, such as CmarNYC's Pregnancy Controller -- basically in order for the fruit to still work, the chances of first born gender need to be left alone by other forces.

Note that the impact of any of these things only exists on the first born of what is to a be a multiple birth. The genders of the second twin, second and third triplet, etc. are always random.

Icarus' Ingredients Moodlets From Meals mod is the one that extends the fruits' impact, if they are to have an impact already, to recipe ingredients in addition to the raw fruits.

Ok thanks for explaining that igazor. I did click on one of the pregnant sims and went MC > Basic > Baby >Baby Gender and set it to Random. The offset was already set to 0. In SP setting is set to Ballanced.
No more pancakes for these sims, they're giving me a headache! :)

If SP is set to Balanced, then the fruit has no impact. Your sims should be able to eat all of the pancakes they want, provided they can still fit into their maternity clothes. :)

I don't think that affects Actives. I remember using the apples/watermelons to influence the gender and it did work but that was also with SP 265.

*Sorry for reviving this thread!*

I just wanted to ask about the baby gender as well: In TS2, we used to be able to simply quit without saving until we get a baby of the desired gender. Does this also apply to TS3 if I did NOT identify the gender of baby (through the hospital or any other means)? I did some reading here and there, wikias and threads, but different sources say different things.

No, I don't think so. I think the gender of the baby seems to be set at conception, rather than birth, unless using a mod to change things. (Please correct me, someone, if I am wrong) But you can change the gender before birth by using Master Controller.
