Current Household/Hood?

Post by LBillusion » January 29th, 2019, 2:16 pm

What things have you been working on in the Sim 3 lately? I've been constructing a new hood basically from scratch. I want to do away with many of the rabbit hole careers and this is the only way I've been able to imagine doing this. It's still in it's infancy and it doesn't have a name, but it is pretty cool to go into map view now and then and see my hood progressing. Anyways I thought other people could add a couple pictures and description of what going on in their hood. The template is Laguna Coast Lite @ My Sims Reality.

This is one of my favorite building I ever built. It's a bookstore and spa....not a rabbit hole there is a sauna, showers, massage table and more inside.

This is our town grocery store run with Ani's Savvier Seller. I love the open world style of the sims 3 the building in the background add a nice vibe.
These are a couple shots of what I've been working on. I have more on my blog. I will try to update here every week with a couple of pictures and maybe a full download sometime. I also have a list of lots that I plan to have in this town. If you see any I left out or should add let me know.

Planned Lots
City Owned:
City Hall
Hospital
Festival Lot
Asylum
Fire Station
Church/Graveyard
Beach
Movie Studio
Science Lab/Observatory
Stadium
Lake
Police Station
Criminal Hideout
Pool
Post Office/ Consignment
Business Office
Museum
Military Base
Park
Library

Privately Owned:
Grocery Store
Dive Bar
Bed and Breakfast
Bot Shop
Book/Spa
Restaurant
Hotel
Gardening Center
Butcher Shop
Gym
Casino
Mall
Coffee Shop
Theater
Pizza Parlor
Fortune Teller
Stables
Dance Club
Laundromat
Arcade
Exclusive Club
Fairgrounds
Winery

Items in bold are being worked on a nearly complete. Any suggestion on other lots would be cool. I plan to combine some of the lots so I can fit them all. The Stadium will also probably be the movie studio because I just thought to add it. I'll try to post a couple pics here weekly because I do tend to lurk here many times.

First, correct the images, please. Or am I the only one who can't see anything? I don't know whether such advertising of creativity is allowed here, but I'd assess, if it could be seen. Secondly, many people like to build, and I'm no exception (although in the process I swear like a working on a real construction), but all this is a direct path to lags and hangs, гnfortunately. Sometimes you have to give up something and choose what the town really needs or what you would like to see there. Nevertheless, everyone has their own priorities, some want to see a beautiful and lively town more than a smooth, but such a minimalist game.

The photos are actually being linked to from Tumblr and they show up fine for me. This forum, Chatterbox in particular, is indeed the correct place for posts like this especially when they showcase NRaas/Ani's mods and how they are being used. In fact, I would like to see and have suggested a Pics from Your Game/What are You Working on Now? kind of sub-board here to actually encourage more of such discussions, but there needs to be more interest from the membership here so that we don't end up with a new sub-board that doesn't get used enough. :)

@igazor I was thinking maybe even a pinned thread would suffice. Whenever one feels the urge to post something funny or interesting or a new build there would be a thread at least.

@Sara_darkees I hope I don't lose interest, the building phase of this has actually been more fun than playing so far. I'm able to run other large worlds with no real problems so this one shouldn't be too bad. I also plan to combine many of the lots into one so that should fend off lag. I think it's awesome how adaptable each persons game is and then how much you can customize your hood I have a small hood which I also plan to edit for when I want to play a minimalist/medieval style...just in case. ;)

@LBillusion -I love to build and set my own towns up with custom builds and use that to play my games in.I've currently got my apocalypse challenge in Sunset Valley into the later part of mid winter in the year of 1525 and they've been dealing with blizzards and an icestorm so far for the winter.I've also got an active 100 baby challenge in Storybrook County lite currently in the year of 1553.

Okay, then I'd add the facade decor with the help of special wall coverings, especially, I think, rusticated corners will make the building more voluminous. I don't know how to describe it, but it's got to be something like this.

For some small buildings it's not necessary, but large administrative buildings should look strictly and neat, but at the same time their appearance should attract attention.

I will keep this in mind. I really don't want the corners on the bookstore building, but I'll test it out.

[Edit: Question removed]

Otherwise, I'm still working on my hood slowly but surely. I've used mostly pre-made residential lots. Some community lots are pre-made and then edited, three come from Littlelambsy site and I repurposed the "then" manor as an art gallery. Here are a few pictures of what I've been working on.
Image
The library, only the outside is done for now.

Image
The Church and graveyard, it still needs more details and an interior.

Image
My attempt at an open stadium...well see how it plays.

I've been playing around with Savvier Seller and it's been going very smoothly. I have run into a few hiccups and have questions if anyone could help me answer. I downloaded a grocery store shelf from Around the sims, and I'm able to sell some things on it using savvier seller rug, but some items it won't allow me to restock. I have the items in the store's inventory, but the option is completely greyed out. Also even though it is a shelf item the restock tag is for ground items. I have a picture of what I mean.

I'm thinking the problem may be the shelf. Is it possible for me to make it "mimic" one of Ani's Savvier Seller shelves so I don't have to use the rug underneath?

Yes, there are some problems with Ani's mod when using those shelves. First of all, you don't need to use the rugs underneath the shelves. There are different versions of those shelves at Around the Sims 3. Have a look at this set Downtown #34 and use the links that say "Download the Savvier Seller model" underneath the main links for each item. Using the specific savvier seller items, you can then sell the items directly from the shelves and you won't get the floor restock sign appearing in the middle of them.

Another point to bear in mind for those tall shelving units is that sims can't restock items on the top two shelves, unfortunately. They can buy from there but they can't restock. You will also find that for items on the bottom shelf, the restock sign disappears underneath the shelf and when the sim restocks, the item will stay underneath. This can also happen on the higher shelves too and you may see the items 'hanging' underneath the shelves.

I think it looks wonderful. Great job, love the pictures and your blog. Also, thank you for using some of my lots and linking to my site. I have no problem with anyone making changes to my lots. :) I'm just glad they're being used.

Thanks, before you I read your post I searched around and found it. I don't think I had the restocking issue with the bottom shelf yet though. Does it happen every time you restock?

@Littlelambsy: Thanks. I plan to do take a ton more pictures this weekend. I think all my community lots have buildings except the criminal location because I don't know what to do with it. I love the fact that your lots are compact they can fit in a small word great. I put the ones I used on bigger lots for later additions and adjusting.
