I just can't choose

I'd like to move my favorite families to the same town and play them all as active. XD I know this is probably NOT RECOMMENDED. But how do I do it as safely as possible?

Probably you already realize this, but it is not possible to play more than one active household at a time. We do have a suggested Rotational Play strategy though, one that leverages SP's caste features and is as customizable as the player would like it to be, that protects "our" households from unwanted forms of progression or from being removed from the game entirely (as what EA's version of progression likes to do) while they are inactive and we are playing sims elsewhere in town.
