You could try the Save Cleaner Tool by Kuree. I use it since many years (back up your save folder to Desktop befor you clean)

Also speeds the loading time a bit.

And, if you might not have it: Use Nraas Saver Saver
Prompts the user to save after a given amount of play-time. It saved my sims play so so often.

While SaveCleaner is a useful tool, note that v2 will not work on Steam installs which is what the OP has. In that case v1 is required and some players have reportedly had trouble getting it to work as well, although I haven't had any trouble with it.

The Download is not really V2.2 in the zip is V 2.1 which I use with patch 1.67  (maybe the V 2.2 is gone, I read it didn't work with 1.69).
Yes, I have no steam installs.

I mean try and see (backup save befor).

Here you can get all versions https://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discus ... avecleaner

Can it be that you have it raining in your current game?
This can cause more Ram usage too.

The confusion over 2.2 vs. 2.1 (yes, I remember that now that you mention it) aside, none of the v2s will work with Patch 1.69 or Steam installs because the structure of the Program Files is so different from what the tool is expecting to find. This should not be the case with v1.1.

V2.x attempts to clean entire saves all at once. V1.x focuses on only one nhd file at a time, so if the player has traveled their sims and there are mutliple nhd files within the same save, then each one has to be cleaned separately. Doesn't take as long as it might sound, ususally.

Unfortunately v1.1 won't clean the TravelDB file, that has to be done using S3PE for those so inclined -- I wait until mine gets obscenely large as in approaching 2 GB before taking such action because it's a pain in the sim to have to do it that way. But on the upside, the somewhat less functional v1.1 doesn't tend to blank out our sims' paintings and photographs along the way.

I haven't played Sims for about a month and then when I went to start it up today I can't skip the intro and then when it does finish loading it stays at a black screen with no sound. The only way I can get out is to ctrl+alt+del and restart my laptop :/
So does the intro play then it goes to the black screen or it just sits at the black screen? How long are you waiting at this black screen?

As I understand it, the user doesn't get much say in the matter as to when these updates take place and what they include.
You just have to set the internet connection as metered and it all stops. That's what I do. I certainly don't have time for Microsoft to be using my machines as a test ground.

Thank you for the feedback CG Grad and Igazor!

I was having issues with a Google cloud program I downloaded, but have fixed it all up. Also, I did have a browser open with multiple tabs, so I'm sure that wasn't helping with the memory issue. I didn't think I had downloaded anything recently, but I did find some pre-made Sims and a couple lots, so I removed them all from the launcher, etc. All seems to be running fine now, so fingers crossed.

I LOATHE being forced to upgrade Windows too, Igazor, so rant away! Haha

Igazor, you're amazing. Thank you so very much for all your feedback and tips. It has helped me get back up and running. :)

Chain_Reaction,

Issue is solved, but it was starting the intro and then going black after it and not letting me exit any other way other than restarting my freaking computer alt+del+ctrl...

Thanks for replying! :)
