All pre-made Maxis Families gone.

Post by deadspear » October 12th, 2018, 5:34 pm

Hello, after about a year since I installed Sims 3 I reinstalled it with every expansion and everything, set up it up, did the performance tweaks found here on steam here https://steamcommunity.com-/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1131162350 (the link thing is being weird just remove the - between .com and /) And when I boot any of the official worlds, they are completely empty and devoid of any pre made Sims. All the lots and everything is there, even their cars but the Sims themselfs are just missing.

Wow, those are... a lot of tweaks.  (You can add links using the "link" button above the text field.)

Do you still have your original graphicsrules.sgr file?  If so, try using it instead of the modified one.  The suggested edits aren't necessary for good game performance and may be causing the disappearance of the premade townies.

It would also be helpful to know what kind of install you have (Origin/Steam/disc) and which mods you've installed, both NRaas and from other sources.

The one thing I see about those performance tweak pages that is glaringly wrong is in the section about limiting fps. For Steam or any other Patch 1.67 installs, the executable that needs limiting is TS3w.exe (with the "w", not TS3.exe). But I doubt that has anything to do with the matter at hand.

Sorry if this is a silly question, it probably is, but as this is a new install is it at all possible that you are playing in Tutorial Mode? It's not always entirely obvious that the Tutorial is still running.

Unfortunately no, but I doubt changing the body hair, tattoos and the bloom had anything to do with it. They arent invisible, their compeltely gone. When I hover over their houses it says "No one lives here."
I have Overwatch, ErrorTrap, Master Controler, Saver, Story Progression, Tempest and the mods mentioned in the link. I'm currently using the steam version.
Yeah I figured as much, I had Nvidia direct it to the TS3W one.
I thought it was that at first too, but I exited the tutorial, even made a sim and put them in the neighbourhood, went in live mode and checked the houses they were deserted then too.

And you have run the game clock for a bit since going into Live Mode? On City Hall, what does an NRaas > MC > Demographics > Population > (X to dismiss the filter) show for the Resident population?

This still seems strange to me...

This feels like an episode of the Twilight Zone. On the other side I'm sure a more creative Simmer would love this kind of a blank canvis.

But non of the pre-made Maxis households are there.

There are many unpopulated custom worlds available out there. In many cases players prefer to populate their worlds themselves, either with sims of their own creation or by engaging SP immigration. It doesn't sound like you (intentionally) have those in play, though.

In an attempt remove some of the variables, I would suggest pulling your entire TS3 user game folder out of Documents to the Desktop for safekeeping, let a fresh one spawn on the next attempted startup, back out, and put in only NRaas mods. Then try to start up a new game. You will have no content and some of the performance fixes will become undone, but this is just to see if anything at all in the current user game folder is interfering with the more typical game start procedures.

If that's no different, especially given the potentially suspect sgr file edits, perhaps an uninstall, Registry cleanup with CCleaner, and total reinstall might be in order. That's a last resort after trying just about everything else available to reset things, though.

Yes it seems its something in the Documents folder. Now the only thing is to figure out what.

Okay, good. Then the way to proceed since you had what sounds like quite a few non-NRaas mods in play is the 50/50 dance (aka binary sort method). Put half of them back in and clear the scriptCache file. If the issue reappears, then take out half of what you just added. If it does not, then add half of what remains. Proceeding forwards and backwards by remaining halves, it shouldn't take too long to isolate the culprit(s), if they are indeed mod files.

Alright so I found the culprit and its the most random thing ever, its an optional file under the http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=611709, the "University - FIX for Missing Science Professor at Student Union" one. I have no clue how this could be possibly causing every since Pre-made Townie from vanishing but there it is.
