I need help with the repairman career module

Post by RadicalChick » March 5th, 2016, 3:30 pm

I have been trying to play this career but whenever my repairman goes to the house that the camera moves to when I search for broken items on the computer, I can't find anything broken. Am I missing something in the way this works? (I also have to call the lot owner back to the lot as well as they seem never to be home, but that is another issue.) Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey RC,

Probably some misfire of getting something broken, a coder will probably look into it later if something in the module or Careers base mod is broken.

Fortunately for you there is a way to get through this issue (broken things) and also when a Sim is not at home:

Cannot find any broken things
1. If you haven't already get DebugEnabler
2. Find the household that's reported a broken item
3. If there is nothing broken, click on something that will break (stereo, shower, sink, dishwasher, etc)
4. Click on the item> NRaas> DebugEnabler> Options:....> Force Break, so there is something you can repair ;-)

As to lot owner is away
Usually this is due to:

A: Sim has a job or a Scenario is triggered to move it out of the house

B: You have StoryProgression set to move inactives around town during day and night (Town Options / Caste Options / Household Options> Push: During Day / Push: At Night)

If you want to have access to the lot, use Household Maptag / Click on outerwall of the house> NRaas> MasterController> Open and you are able to enter, do your thing and once done use MC> Close. Hope your Sim doesn't have the klepto trait ^.^

I tried this career for a short time in one game a long time ago. I got distracted by another game so I was never able to verify if what I saw was a coincidence. My repair sim went to a clients house and the only thing I could find that was sort of broken was a chair that a pet had scratched. I'm not sure if the scratched/damaged/destroyed chair was being seen by the career as a repairable object or if it was simply coincidence that it had been scratched at the same time as my sim got called out for a job.

Thanks J4KS. I didn't realize I could break items myself then repair them! I'll give that a try. As for the lot owner being away, I just usually use Mastercontroller to have the lot owner Go Home. It would be easier to just Open the lot though, no time spent waiting that way! It is a good thing that this repairman isn't a klepto. Bad enough he shows up and breaks things just to get paid to fix them now! ;)
I'll keep an eye out for the pet destroyed furniture while I play this career, kimlupai. I don't know if the repairman can fix those, but it would be interesting to see if those are triggering the broken item report.

@ J4Ks, that's a destructively creative, cheaty way of doing it (it's pretty good actually, I might try it myself :))
Another way to do it, since @ RadicalChick doesn't mind cheating, is when the householder isn't at home AND/OR you can't find the broken item, click on the roof of their house, click 'NRaas>MasterController>Repair All'. All items in the house are repaired, puddles are cleaned up (if there are any) - your repair-sim gets paid. Very lucrative career :)

You could also click on the sim and use Family Funds to give them a billion simoleons so they won't have to care about repairing anything for a living.

(takes unasked for sarcasm and scurries out of thread quickly before getting into trouble...)
:D

@Deesim; That would make the career absolutely useless, at least my method the repairman has to go and repair something, though something broken by the player that needs to be repaired.
Since Pets can damage random stuff, it wouldn't be hard to believe that the Mod can't distinguish repairable and non-repairable objects. A little bit help from the player might be something that's needed :P

If I would cheat than I definitely would go with igazor's method and retire my Sim. And since we are all using mods on this site, who ain't cheating (looking at your fine huge collection of mods in your last submitted scripterror :P)?

@ J4Ks, not necessarily useless, as the original broken item is still being repaired (as well as other things in the house that is broken), okay, not by his own effort, but he still had to use the laptop/computer to search for broken items in the first place, so he did do SOME work lol. And its only the items in the house that is being repaired not ALL items in the word, so I reckon the career is still viable as the repairman is called to REPAIR something not BREAK then REPAIR said item ;p. As for igazor's way, well, we might as well pack up the game and forget about it - no need for careers at all if we give all the sims a billion simoleons LOL.
Of course, using any mod is cheaty but its only US cheating, not the sims ;P.
And you've got way too much of a good memory, who said you could bring up my last scripterror and use it against me? :P
