About SP and custom careers

Post by budewarmin » September 8th, 2018, 4:41 am

I made a custom blacksmith career for my game and SP loves to give it to other sims. I wonder if its because of the skills you need for it that appeals to other sims, or maybe SP thinks my own sim needs coworkers in that career and assigns sims to it?

Hi there. I'm not sure what's causing it or why SP (if it is Story Progression that's assigning them) is assigning you coworkers. But there's likely a function in it somewhere, or in another Nraas mod, to prevent it from happening. Off the top of my head, maybe you could go to SP > Town Options > Career:Disallow and select your custom career.

If this prevents your chosen sims from choosing that career altogether (because I haven't tested it), then you might have to do what I did - manually set who I wanted to be in the same custom career I created, aside from my active sims. But I wanted them to have coworkers, and if I'm understanding you correctly, you want your sim to be the only one with that specific career.

In that case, when you created your career, what values did you set in <MinCoworkers> and <MaxCoworkers>? I'm not sure how to make a career something only one sim can have. The Min and MaxCoworkers tag defines the size of the pool of sims that can be in that career as your coworkers, and I believe it stops new ones from joining if it's full but also pushes sims to join if it doesn't meet the minimum required, and I don't know for certain if you can set it to 0 (since your sim shouldn't count as a Coworker).

So aside from those two suggestions, you can always wait on someone more 'savvy' in what each mod does to give you some more information. I did a quick search through MC and SP interactions on the website and couldn't find one that seemed to allow that directly, aside from the Career: Disallow option in SP.

Hello @budewarmin, do you have the StoryProgression mod installed? If not this page states that "sims who are unemployed can be scooped up by the EA Careers system to act as coworkers and bosses to your active sims."

I believe SP does a similar simulation but has more respect for the individual personalities of your townies. So it'll most likely assign the custom career to sims who have traits/LTW aspirations/skills that fulfill the criterions required to progress and succeed in your Blacksmith career.

If I remember correctly there is a way to manage that with SP Careers, but Imcould be wrong. Hopefully someone will pop in who does remember where it is, since my computer is broke so I can't check.
