Hello @StarkofGenius! Your project sounds amazing, I have myself gone through the nerve-wrecking process of creating a custom career and hope to make it public soon.

I'd be happy to beta test your career! Actually, my sister is a big fan of Hawaii 5-0 AND plays The Sims 3 so she'll definitely be hitting the "download" button once you have the mod publically available. Any legit fan of Hawaii 5-0 will do.

I can also help translate your custom career in french as it's my native language.

@MissPatTS3 Bonjour et merci pour la réponse!

That's about as much as I can type in French, despite my 3 years learning it in middle school xD apologies if it should've been 'bonsoir'.
Anyhow, if you're interested I can definitely put it up for download, as well as provide the string files that would need to be translated and implemented. I don't think any beta testing is required (as I've done it myself and have had sims with that career for a while now, though I haven't yet gotten either of them to the top of the career), but if you ended up downloading it and finding something not working as expected, that would of course be good to know so I could fix it.

As it is, the career has no Opps or Events attached to it. I was so happy with having made my first little mod and how it worked so well that I never got around to adding them, nor do I have any ideas of what to put in it to begin with. But it has the rest you'd expect from a sims career: a summary for each level, custom tones, custom metrics (between skill building, relationship with coworkers and writing reports), and the rewards from the law enforcement career (that I've seen and tested, the Apprehend Burglar hidden trait, ability to question sims for reports and the free police car - don't think there's anything specific from the branches LE has that is given as a promotion reward in this career, but there shouldn't be).
And if you go to City Hall after work (because I couldn't figure out how to make it 'stretch' into overtime) you have an option to work overtime too. No career outfits because I wanted the freedom to dress my sims differently as they do on the show. I think that's about all the features.

However, I have to note: I added Martial Arts as one of the skills needed, and for that you need to have World Adventures. But if you don't, or your sister doesn't, and you'd still like it, I can alter it to be compatible with the base game skills only. It's not a problem.
Another thing, and this was personal preference, is that the career starts off not paying much, less working days and with few work hours per day (plenty of free time), all of which increase exponentially as you get promoted. Specially the time spent at work. I made it for myself the way I wanted it, but that too can be easily changed into a less-encumbered work schedule. It's just changing a few values anyway.

And because it's Hawaii 5-0, I play this career in the Island Paradise world. It works everywhere there's a City Hall, of course, but this was the place it made most sense to have my sims in for that career xD

Let me know and I'll upload it 'as is' to MTS, as well as the string files to be translated and add compatibility to French. Any other changes necessary, to skill or workload, I can make a base game compatible and/or lite version.

Just because I'm curious, what's your project about? I have almost all custom careers out there, for the sake of variety :D

@StarkofGenius Luckily, I'm reading in the daytime so "bonjour" is totally appropriate :)

Yes please go ahead and upload on MTS 1x download link for the career and 1x download link for the translation string files. I'll be happy to review it in my game and let you know if I notice anything off.

Regarding no Opps & Events: I'm with you, getting the career to function is already quite an achievement in itself, let's celebrate that first! An updated, "version 2", of the career with uniforms and books and whatnot can always be uploaded later.

Nice rewards, especially the hidden trait unlocked! I checked some guides on the Law Enforcement career in TS3 and couldn't see a mention of branch-specific rewards so I think you're fine not worrying further about it.

For the overtime option, I believe you'd have to use "overtime" opportunities or unlock the computer interaction of the workaholic trait which allows sims with this trait to "work from home" on their personal laptop/computer.

I do have WA so no problem on the martial arts skill metric (I have all EPs and stuff pack installed). Actually my sis maxed out the skill because she wanted to be ready to fight mummies anytime when going through misc. adventures in Egypt XD So, it's all good on that end.

I'm fine with your choice of work schedule, from a storytelling perspective the progressive increase of work hours makes complete sense.

My career is called 'Floristry'. The background story is that I am annoyed that active sims and townies with the "green thumbs" trait as well as Science Major graduates, only have few job opportunities to look forward to. How many self-employed Gardeners and full time Scientists townies does it take to bore a simmer? How about a dozen of each, eh? I wanted a career that was plants-based still but felt more artistic, hence a multi-faceted 10-level full time career that involves the art of floristry. Also it's the first time I use a career based at the Arboretum RabbitHole lot! Pretty stoked about that. It got me to install the Moonlight Falls lot with the Arboretum RH in the town I play (Bridgeport). It's such a beautiful lot it gives my sims a +20 "beautiful park" moodlet throughout the work day! I'd never have been bothered installing this specific lot, if I hadn't discovered it through the career creation process (to be transparent, I didn't even know there was such a thing as an Arboretum in game when I started to work on the career!)

Anyway - looking forward to the Hawaii 5-0 career release on MTS! That's going to be a serious rally of the show's fans :)

My first custom career has been uploaded, and is now awaiting moderator approval, apparently. Hope there isn't a problem linking it here once it's up.

While looking over the package file to know what to write in the description, I came across some answers for doubts I had since it's been a handful of months since I wrote the mod. For instance, that there are branch-specific rewards in EA's LE career, and I've used some from both branches as promotion rewards in mine! I had totally forgotten I'd managed that xD got tipped off by one of my sims receiving a computer as a reward for being promoted. Also that although I set Pensions so that they could retire, I apparently neglected to add the Retirement option itself somehow xD If I do make it base game compatible, which is a simple change in metrics for the skills needed, I'm torn between Handiness and Writing.

Now that you've mentioned it, I'm not sure if overtime is a Workaholic option since one of my sims has that trait and the other doesn't. I should check if the Overtime shows up in the City Hall menu for both of them or not, since I know I can't extend the At Work action manually and have no idea how I could make it possible to do so.

All this has also had me looking over Nraas Mobster Career and a couple others I've found that include custom Opps and Events, and so far - because I've only been reading through the XML files - I think I've got a grasp on how it works, at least the basics. When I first started out I was a little confused about the language and steps involved, but remembering how I wrote up this career has made me realise it's likely not as confusing or difficult to implement as I'd first thought it would be.

Now all I need is to plan out what I want those events and opps to be before I try to tackle it. The creative part xD, which can often turn out to be even more difficult than the coding, depending on how imaginative I'm feeling. @MissPatTS3 if you or your sister have any suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them! Can be fully original or series-events related, as serious or ridiculous as you'd like.

As for your own career, let me know when it's up and available because it sounds awesome and I have a sim for whom that would be the perfect career. From what I understand, you want to incorporate Gardening, maybe Science, possibly Photography or Painting skills? In any case, it sounds very interesting and I look forward to trying it. If you ever need help and post in the chatterbox, as long as I catch it, I'll try to help you out too. I've always loved the Arboretum since I got Supernatural and started a game in its town, and that career is right up my little fairy's alley.

This is likely my last post in this thread. Just to let anyone who followed or might be interested that the career is up in MTS for download (though MissPatTS3 found it immediately when it was approved xD). There you go and enjoy. Any questions about it, probably easier to send them through there. Should I ask for it to be added to NRaas More Careers page (in the new site, of course)? I don't know who would decide if it warrants being there or not, or who to ask. I'd appreciate it but it's by no means necessary.

Big thank you to Igazor and Chain for the help they provided way back when, and everyone for the general support. Wouldn't have done it without you, probably. Well, maybe, but I'd be hitting walls left, right and centre, so you guys made it easier. Think that's it. Onto the next one.
