Another homeworld university question

Post by Calista_Drake » September 20th, 2016, 7:14 am

Is there any way, other than the makesim cheat, to get the game to generate homeless sims to be classmates of my sim? The young adult population all have careers already, and I don't want to take them away from those careers and have the game generate homeless sims to take their places in the careers.

Hi Calista... Not entirely sure if you are asking for classmates for children/teens or where you mentioned not wanting to use sims in town already in careers away from existing careers, are you looking for classmates for YA sims going to Uni with your sim? The method I use below is kind of universal and works in my game. But if I've misunderstood you completely please clarify.

There is more than one way to accomplish this. The method I use is to assign newspaper carrier children and/or baby sitters to the school(s) I want them to attend using Master Controller>Immediate>Careers>. It takes a sim day or two for the assignments to kick in. My experience using this method has been: The newspaper carriers start showing up at school after the others and/or new sims are generated.
Another way I have used: Use the town's inactive population to assign children and teens to the school I want them in.

Another way would be to enable immigration to add more sims to the population and assign those sims.

It's university classmates for my YA I want, and I don't want to increase the resident population to do it. He is a new sim just starting in a new save. If he were second generation, I would just enroll his high school classmates, but being new, he has none.

Ahhh, I see what you are after :) and I'm not sure how to accomplish that without more sims being added. You could try assigning existing service sims to UNI. They will loose their service status but the game will generate new sims so not sure if that will work for you. I'm sure others in here will have other methods to share.

Afraid I don't see any way to do this either. I would probably add one new household of 6 or 8 residents and make them Uni students just for a while and then later move them all out to other Traveler connected worlds. That does give you more residents than you wanted, but only temporarily. The Dorm and Frat/Sorority House setups where the sims aren't really part of a permanent household I believe only work in Uni World.

That's a good idea, @brappl, I think I'll try using the role or service sims.

@igazor, I was thinking if there's no other way, I'd put some sims in and TA them afterward. Your way is kinder to the little pixel people, but I would have to send my own sims traveling before I could send the inactive sims away, wouldn't I? I am so burned out on travel after playing my adventurer that I had do every adventure opportunity in every WA world with, I'm not going to be doing any more traveling for a while, thus the desire to do uni in the homeworld, instead of sending him away to school. But then, how could I kill off my sim's school friends?

Calista, I just thought of something else. Have you seen J4Ks' <a href="http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Automatic+E ... >Automatic Enrollment For Inactives</a>? There might be some sort of a work-around in there that would work for your game.

Thank you for the link, @brappl. I think it will be very helpful. I had decided that this university would only offer the education program, and I see that I can even set that limitation on auto enrollment. By the way, when I looked up the career mod and the education program module, it was suggested that aging be turned off until the active sim graduates. Do you know if this is necessary? Or has the issue that was meant to deal with been changed? I don't really want aging off while my sim is in school, but I don't want any more problems to deal with than necessary. It's a big enough challenge just doing a homeworld university for the first time ever.

I honestly am not sure if turning off aging is absolutely necessary. I have never done so as I play with Epic lifespans. There is a setting in Overwatch which replaces the Age Up interaction with a custom version. Perhaps someone in here can better answer your question on the aging settings and the setting available in Overwatch.

Where is that suggested? Aging should be fine with OW installed.
